Queer as Punk
In a predominantly Islamic Malaysia, a Muslim queer punk band, Shh…Diam! led by transman. Faris Saad is a rebel with a cause to fight against social injustice through their music.
Transman Faris Saad is the lead singer of Shh…Diam! the one and only openly Muslim queer and punk band in Malaysia. Queer As Punk follows Faris together with his bisexual cousin, Yon and queer bassist Yoyo in their fight for LGBT rights through their music about social injustice and freedom of expression against the backdrop of the changing political landscape in Malaysia.
In a predominantly Islamic country where homosexuality is outlawed and violent crimes are committed against transgenders, will Faris and his band of rebels be able to rise against the tide of social construction and societal expectations? Will they have a place against the growing religious extremism in the dawn of a new Malaysia?
